“Written with the joy of a storyteller’s soul, fast paced, surprising and full of the unexpected... As a review let me say this, you need to read ‘Kheris Burning’ the first book in this series . Not because this novel does not stand on its own, it does. Not because this novel disappoints, it doesn’t. Not because Kheris Burning is the better novel, it’s not… But because Beyond Redemption deserves its Herald. It’s a great novel, a wonderful read, it’s fast, pacey, and once I picked it up I read it in two sittings, which would have been one but for Insomnia failing to win out against the demons of sleep. Like Kheris, there is more to it than just a straight up adventure sci-fi, themes from the first novel come through to the second, but those themes have moved on to bring in more complexity underlying what is always a fun read that draws you along and draws you deeper with each page. You need to read ‘Beyond Redemption‘ because it’s just as damn good. Written with the joy of a storyteller’s soul, fast paced, surprising and full of the unexpected. You just should read ‘Kheris Burning’ first. C.G.Hatton continues to defy my expectations, the astounding standards she has set herself in her previous works she just keeps hitting again and again.” [Beyond Redemption] Read more

"Excellent sequel to Kheris Burning, I couldn't put this book down til the end... I started reading this book and literally could not put it down, as I started reading late at night I thought I would read a little in bed before going to sleep. The problem was that I enjoyed the story so much that I continued reading straight through to the end and by that time it was early morning and the sun was up. Beyond Redemption is highly addictive and an excellent sequel to Kheris Burning, following the story of the Young Luka Cole "Anderton" from the Thieves Guild series. The story is gripping and barely pauses for breath and like the previous books the story rolls. It doesn't have huge amounts of overanalysing detail to fill up pages just very good story that is a joy to read. I for one look forward to reading what Mrs Hatton writes next. If you love SciFi and adventure then I recommend reading the Thieves Guild series and these prequels, currently book one Residual Belligerence is free on Amazon Kindle.” [Beyond Redemption]

“Fast paced and a real page turner. This is the kind of book I love to read. Full of excitement and pace. You genuinely feel for the characters and when certain characters get hurt or do something you weren't expecting, you can't help but carry on reading to find out what happens next. I can't wait to start book 2.” [Residual Belligerence]

“A fantastic, rollercoaster of a ride. I didn't want to put this book down. The fast paced narrative sweeps you along with the action; so much so that you feel LC's every bump and bruise on the way to the end.” [Kheris Burning]

“Initially I was unsure about an origins story for my favourite character from the Thieves' Guild series. I don't know why I even had a shred of doubt - this is FANTASTIC! I couldn't put this down and I read the whole story over two nights. It has the same fast-paced style that I love about the other Thieves' Guild books and even though I knew where it was ultimately going to end up, it twists and turns all the way through, making me doubt whether in fact it would end in that place. I don't want to give away any spoilers, so I'm keeping this review rather generic. In essence it's back story that explains so much about LC - how he developed his attitude, why he learned to box up and compartmentalise his emotions and even where his name comes from! Whilst doing this it still maintains some of those underlying mysteries - like where is LC really from? What was that ship that landed in the desert? I particularly loved that even at the age of 13 Luka has an influence of the ladies, both young and old! Having just re-read all of the Thieves' Guild books in order to get my teeth into Wilful Defiance, which we got signed at a local Sci-Fi Convention, I am now fully immersed in this universe all over again and reminded of what an absolutely fantastic series it is. I am thrilled to see there are two more books in the pipeline and I hope that not only will we see CGH at another Sci-Fi Convention, but that there are some other origins books in the pipeline.” [Kheris Burning]

“I honestly couldn't put this book down. A fantastic 1st person novel of LC and his harsh struggle against all odds before joining the Thieves' Guild. Clearly the author loves this character and I can see why. I eagerly await book 2 on LC.” [Kheris Burning]

I have not enjoyed a true Sci Fi series as much as this one in a very long time. Each novel gets better and better as the tale progresses. I can not recommend this series enough!!! You will not want to put the books down..”

“Book two is fantastic! I love how the story continues. Following some the characters, introducing new ones, it all feels wrapped up in an epic drama we're only getting glimpses of. Perfect mix of action and suspense. I can't wait to see where this leads!! A very well thought out story!” [Blatant Disregard]

“Great book for people who love a blend of sci-fi and fantasy. Having met the author at a convention, I was interested and went home and got the free electronic copy to the first book. On the whole I really enjoyed it, the plot was engrossing, the writing style was enjoyable and I liked all of the characters. I finished it within the week and am going to start the second one soon. Very fast story with lots of action!” [Residual Belligerence]

“A nice introduction to the series. I found the story an interesting read and one that definitely picked up as I kept reading. Hatton brings you along on a journey of discovery with Hil, and the rest of the guild, as he tries to remember what the hell happened to him! I found some of the characters more defined and justified than others, and just about put together the scenery in which the story takes place by the end. I will be reading the follow up books to continue exploring these characters, Winter, Earth and everywhere in the between.” [Residual Belligerence]

“There is a great depth to the Thieves’ Guild universe that grows with the series… You know there is more going on behind the scenes… feels like a whole universe the way good sci-fi should… the main plot moves along with a fast and frantic pace that pulls you along and makes the books hard to put down.” [Residual Belligerence] Read more here...

“Another top class sci-fi roller coaster ride from C.G. Hatton continuing the Thieves’ Guild series. Non stop action, twists and turns had me on the edge my seat from start to finish. A truly enjoyable read I can highly recommend.”

“Great new read. This got me back into sci-fi again. Great book, well written and had me hooked. It’s kind of an interstellar whodunit and I still don’t know - what the dickens is in the package??!! I like the characters and their little idiosyncrasies and I love Skye, you can’t beat an AI and here they are recognised as being sentient and have rights, way to go! I have book 2 ready and waiting on my kindle now and I am sure the adventure will just keep going, perhaps poor old Hil won’t get quite as beat up in the next instalment!”

“Fine conclusion to this initial story which tees up nicely for the next instalment. This series has been one to pick up at every spare moment; the pace has been frantic and the approach of author to bring each of the three books from the point of view different protagonists a novel and interesting one - can't wait for book four.”

“A great, fast moving sci fi story, the best yet in the Thieves’ Guild series. It takes the story further and considerably ups the stakes. This time the story follows the character of NG as the threats to both the Guild and him personally ramp up, and while we get some answers about NG, the Man and the bigger threat hinted at previously, we are also left with more questions, which will hopefully be answered in future Thieves’ Guild novels.”

“This was the best book in the series yet. I think this may have been because you start to find out more about the situations that were occurring in the previous two books. And the ending, spectacular!!!! I can't wait for the next one to be released.... and to CG Hatton - you did a great job with NG, I really liked him as a character, flawed enough to be likeable, mysterious enough to be intriguing and ruthless enough to be a little bit scary!”

“Highly addictive and imaginative story and characters, in my opinion among the best sci-fi novels I have ever read. As soon as I finished book 1, I immediately bought book 2 and 3 now I can't wait for book 4.”

“This is the second installment of the Thieves Guild books and this one follows the same timeline as the last but from the point of view of LC. I have to say I prefer LC to Hil as a character, he’s one of those loveable rogues that despite thinking that he's ultimately self centred he ends up getting caught up in other people's problems and feeling a need to help out. I enjoyed learning more about Sean and her place in the story, it’s good to see a strong female character that can hold her own. I can tell that there is something big these stories are building towards, but that doesn’t overshadow what is happening in the book. Some series tend to read a bit like filler stories to build to a big finale, but not this one, it just sets the backdrop to another fast-paced and exciting installment of the TG. I have not little niggles about this one like the last, in fact I smiled when I read about LC's blatant disregard once. I can’t wait for the next one!”

“Bought this 1st book after a recommendation from a friend. I have read many sci-fi books over the years, all the greats and I can say without a doubt that I love this author. I love the way she writes, her characterization and her imagination. Already bought book 2 and eagerly awaiting book 3!”

“This is a great novel for fantasy and sci-fi buffs, especially if you like novels like Ender's Game. I've sort of pulled away from this genre lately as I'm finding my tastes are more for down to earth, relatable stories, but even so, this is a very well written novel! Fast-paced, filled with action and mystery, it keeps readers focus as the plot unfolds, whisking them across the galaxy as the bounty hunters search for a fallen comrade and a mysterious package as our hero, Hil, tries desperately to remember the past and recover from his bout of amnesia.
The novel opens with action and it continues non-stop; reader and Hil alike don’t know who to trust, and it’s a great roller-coaster ride as the plot unfolds. I highly recommend it to those looking for a galactic adventure.”

“I could not put this book down. It was intriguing from the beginning and the setting was unusual as well as captivating. I loved that the main character was a bit of a bad boy and that he was trying to recover from something that may not have been entirely legal… but he can’t remember. There are so many twists and turns as well as a lot of surprises that makes this a definite must read. I love the writing style, too. Quick descriptions, great dialogue as well as wonderful story lines. I didn’t have any trouble following the pathways set by the author and loved the way tension was built up.  I also liked the brief intermissions throughout to discuss strategy and keep us abreast of the developments from management. Great book.”

“Another fast moving, action-filled sci-fi from CG Hatton, with great, intriguing characters desperately trying to stay one step ahead of adversaries known and unknown, set in the cracks between two hostile empires, with all sides after the desperate LC and the ‘package’. An excellent follow up to Residual Belligerence leaving me eager for the release of the next novel in the series.”

“I bought this on chance and very glad that I did. Great plot, well written, and excellent characterisation. Some strands of the plot remain ambiguous, even at the end of the book. Betrayal and uncertainty drive the story, which has both intrigue and fast-paced action. The intrigue is wrapped around a complex political situation that should suit even the most tortuous minds. The fast-paced action balances the intrigue nicely although at times I wondered if the hero could take much more punishment. His indomitable spirit and sheer will to survive makes for an engaging character. There are plenty of hints about the main character’s background that could provide a interesting prequel at some point, not to mention the elusive LC, who never appears directly in this book but whose presence is larger than life.”

“This book kept me interested from the first page. LC is a well developed character. The plot line was well thought out and very exciting.”

“The first book in the Thieves' Guild series, "Residual Belligerence" opens with fast-paced action from the start featuring a tense pursuit of a man without a memory. The novel continues in a similarly dramatic vein but handles all this rapid, breathless action with assurance. It is well-paced throughout with a cleverly developed narrative, whilst the character of Zach Hilyer proves himself to be an unpredictable yet heroic maverick.
C.G. Hatton has an efficient writing style suggestive of Frederik Pohl, while the `running man' concept of fugitive Zach Hilyer reminded me of Alfred Bester's Gully Foyle in the Cyberpunk classic The Stars My Destination (S.F. Masterworks). Likewise, in a similar Cyberpunk dystopian motif were the various guilds, as powerful and influential as any government, to which loyalty is paramount.
As with most good Sci-Fi novels, Residual Belligerence doesn't neglect a thoughtfully developed vision of future technologies, without being mired in unnecessary details. I particularly liked the synergic nature of the relationship between humans and the artificial intelligence of their spacecraft. Likewise, the violent use of hi-tech weaponry here was always convincing, observing that whilst future warfare will be increasingly fought in a virtual realm, the outcome will remain ultimately brutal.
The book concludes neatly and satisfactorily, with the prospect of developing the vision created further, and I eagerly await the next in the series.”

“Fast paced Sci fi! The start of a well written, fast paced, sci fi saga that kept me hooked all the way through. For me, it was a nice, subtle blend of contemporary and futuristic and reminiscent of the TV series, Firefly. I’m off to download the next instalment, enjoy!....”
